caffeinated coke and clothing concepts

I have got to cut back on the caffeine.

I mean, do I really need to be awake and writing at 5:15 a.m.? I don't think so.

Last night, the Pastor and I went to eat Mexican food and I guzzled my 3 huge diet cokes with dinner, because if I get a diet coke at a restaurant, the Pastor is going to make sure I get his $1.50's worth. Only yesterday we actually ate dinner at more of a dinner time - 5:30, instead of our customary 3 o'clock. That much diet coke so late in the day doesn't work for me. It's like I'm on crack.

So now I will be going to Starbucks here as soon as they open, and I will start the vicious cycle all over again.

The SK's are leaving today. The Pastor and I are going out tonight and I will need to be more like Nancy Nazarene and less like myself. I haven't figured out what to wear. The Limited is gone, but many things in Macy's Inernational Concepts line have been 75% off so I am not without choices, many of which look like they have been consuming too much caffeine when I need more of a de-caf look.

I have this little number, which would make me an outfit repeater:

this dress I haven't worn yet, which I totally thought had an Asian look to it, and of course they have an Asian model in their picture:

I know it's not appropriate for tonight, but I wanted to show it off anyway. So as long as I'm at it, here's one more of my clearance finds -

I also got an peach/brown dress which I can't find a photo for, which is a possibility AND one of my friends will be very glad to hear yes I did buy one of those floor length dresses, because I only had to pay $12 for it (It had been $122!) and I had my tailor cut off about a foot from the length.

OK, if you are still with me here and care about what I wear tonight, then you might as well help me decide for later this weekend too. The Pastor and I are taking the traveling Pastoral road show to Vici, Oklahoma. No, I don't even know where that is, so I googled it to find as of the last census, Vici had 688 residents and 97% of them were white. If you're one of them, be on the lookout for a very stylish woman this Sunday. I will be searching for the nearest cup of coffee and will probably be wearing that purple dress and eye make-up not becoming of a Pastor's wife.

Do you like you stepchildren at all? Reading through your blog, I get the feeling you don't really like having them around. I hope they don't read this...or that their mother doesn't read it.

Robyn doesn't have to like her stepchildren, in fact, it sounds to me like she puts a great deal of effort and time into caring for them. If I were in her situation, I think I would feel the same way she does, especially when all her hard work goes unappreciated.

Maybe their mother SHOULD read her blog so she can see how horrible her children are to Robyn.

The difference is they are children and she is SUPPOSED to be an adult.

Anonymous - don't judge people you don't know. Robyn does put in an extraordinary amount of effort with her step-parenting, things which include (but are not limited to) trying to do fun girly things with them that will help them to 'bond.' However, these children tend to lean toward 'ungrateful' with her, a feeling and action which is only encouraged by their mother. Robyn does the best she can with very little help (excepting the Pastor's help of course!).

emmeline~Thank you for your explanation. I KNOW that children can be mean and spiteful, and that step-parenting is not easy. That being said, is it her intention to come across as heartless and uncaring, and clearly favoring her own child? It seems this blog (if read by the Xwife) would only perpetuate the viscous cycle.
I'm also surprised that their father isn't a little upset by the fact that his entire congregation knows how wife #2 feels about his children.

Hey, I just happened onto your blog through a friend...and, it's delightful.
Our pastor's wife was never called to be a pastor's wife...but, a wife and mother. It's worked beautifully and they are in their early 60's now.
I love your writing and would dearly love to have you in our church!!! Aunty D

p.s. Love the Asian outfit!!

It just figures that someone who is being so overly critical would hide behind 'anonymous.'

Emmeline, aren't we all really anonymous online? I mean I can tell you my name is Elizabeth,my friends call me Beth, but does that make a difference.....not really.
It doesn't change the fact that Robyn comes across on this blog as someone who can not stand to be around her stepdaughters. In one old post she says " I think my stepdaughters must have smashed my biological clock to smithereens. One of my stepdaughters got mistaken for a BOY the other day. I’ve tried to be a good influence; I’ve tried to teach her how to be a girly girl. Now I feel like a failure and have androgynous child." and " Also, it would probably be confusing to the baby to not know whether they had an older brother or older sister (if that doesn't make sense to you, see androgynous comment above)."
I mean, really, what a thing to say about anyone's child especially your husband, the pastor;s child. Wonder what the pastor thought of that comment....

Actually, it is not a personal insult to Pastor's looks because both the girls are adopted. You're just jealous because you're not as witty or stylish as Robyn!

I didn't say anything about it being a personal insult to the pastor's looks.

I know the girls are adopted, but they are HIS children, biological or not. If my spouse told the world that he thought one of my children was androgynous, I would be hurt and angry.

On top of that what if someone from church or school reads this and tells their child, who goes back and tells the pastor's daughter what her step mother has said about her....how very cruel.

As for witty and stylish...Robyn has great taste in clothes and a great figure for which she works hard for. Good for her. So I'd agree she is more stylish than me, however, I have her beat on witty, I asure you. I have a great sense of humor, and I find nothing funny in the way she speaks of those 2 girls.

Unless you've walked in Robyn's shoes, give her a break. Being a Stepmom is not exactly a walk in the park. Speaking from 16 years of experience here, I think she's doing a great job, and trying to make her way through as best she can, just like the rest of us.
